സയ്യിദ് ആബിദ് അലി അന്തരിച്ചു, ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒരേ മത്സരത്തിൽ ബോളിങ്ങും ബാറ്റിങ്ങും ഓപ്പൺ ചെയ്ത ഓൾറൗണ്ടർ

ന്യൂഡൽഹി ∙ മുൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് താരം സയ്യിദ് ആബിദ് അലി യുഎസിൽ‌ അന്തരിച്ചു. ദീർഘകാലമായി അസുഖബാധിതനായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് 83 വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. കലിഫോർണിയയിലെ ട്രാസിയിലാണ് താമസിച്ചിരുന്നത്. മൻസൂർ‍ അലി ഖാൻ പട്ടൗഡി, എം.എൽ‍.ജയസിംഹ, അബ്ബാസ് അലി ബെയ്ഗ് എന്നിവർക്കൊപ്പം ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റിലെ ഹൈദരാബാദ് സംഘത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്ന ആബിദ് അലി 1967ൽ ഓസ്ട്രേലിയയ്ക്കെതിരെ അഡ്‌‌ലെയ്ഡ് ടെസ്റ്റിലൂടെയാണ് ഇന്ത്യൻ ടീമിനു വേണ്ടി അരങ്ങേറിയത്.

ആദ്യ ഇന്നിങ്സിൽ 55 റൺസ് വഴങ്ങി 6 വിക്കറ്റെടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കരിയറിലെ മികച്ച ബോളിങ് പ്രകടനവും അതു തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. അതേ പരമ്പരയിലെ സിഡ്നി ടെസ്റ്റിൽ 78,81 എന്നിങ്ങനെ സ്കോർ നേടി അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ ഓൾറൗണ്ട് മികവും തെളിയിച്ചു. 29 ടെസ്റ്റുകളിൽ നിന്ന് 1018 റൺസും 47 വിക്കറ്റുകളുമാണ് കരിയർ സമ്പാദ്യം.

മീഡിയം പേസറായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം ഒരേ മത്സരത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കായി ബോളിങ്ങും ബാറ്റിങ്ങും ഓപ്പൺ‍ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. മികച്ച ഫീൽഡറുമായിരുന്നു. 1971ൽ അജിത് വഡേക്കറുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഇന്ത്യ ആദ്യമായി ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിൽ ടെസ്റ്റ് പരമ്പര ജയിച്ചപ്പോൾ ടീമിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ആബിദ് അലി.1975 ഏകദിന ലോകകപ്പിൽ മൂന്നു മത്സരം കളിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം ന്യൂസീലൻഡിനെതിരെ 98 പന്തിൽ 70 റൺസെടുത്ത് തിളങ്ങി. വിരമിച്ചതിനു ശേഷം ഹൈദരാബാദ്, ആന്ധ്രപ്രദേശ്, മാലദ്വീപ്, ഒമാ‍ൻ ടീമുകളുടെ പരിശീലകനായി.
