ബ്രിട്ടണിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ലൈംഗിക കുറ്റവാളിയായ പൊലീസുകാരന് 30 വര്‍ഷം തടവുശിക്ഷ വിധിച്ച് വിചാരണക്കോടതി. നാല്‍പ്പത്തെട്ടുകാരനായ മുന്‍ മെട്രൊപ്പാളിറ്റന്‍ പൊലീസ് ഓഫിസര്‍ ഡേവിഡ് കാരിക്കിനെയാണ് സൗത്‍വോത് ക്രൗണ്‍ കോടതി ശിക്ഷിച്ചത്. വിധി പ്രസ്താവത്തില്‍ കാരിക്കിനെ ‘രാക്ഷസന്‍’ എന്നാണ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ചീമ ഗ്രബ് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചത്.
2003 മുതല്‍ 2020 വരെയുള്ള 28 വര്‍ഷക്കാലയളവില്‍ ഹെര്‍ട്ഫോര്‍ഡ്ഷറിലാണ് ഡേവിഡ് കാരിക്കിന്റെ തേര്‍വാഴ്ച അരങ്ങേറിയത്. തോക്കിന്‍മുനയില്‍ നിര്‍ത്തിയും തടവില്‍ വച്ചുമെല്ലാം ഒട്ടേറെ സ്ത്രീകളെ ഇയാള്‍ ബലാല്‍സംഗത്തിനിരയാക്കി. പലരും പൈശാചികമായ ലൈംഗികാതിക്രമങ്ങളാണ് നേരിട്ടത്. 24 ബലാല്‍സംഗങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ 49 കുറ്റങ്ങള്‍ കാരിക് സമ്മതിച്ചു. 12 സ്ത്രീകളായിരുന്നു ഈ കേസുകളിലെ ഇരകള്‍. ശേഷിച്ച കുറ്റങ്ങളും പൊലീസ് തെളിയിച്ചു. പൊലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച കാലയളവിലാണ് ഈ കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം ചെയ്തത്. കോടതിയില്‍ കുറ്റസമ്മതം നടത്തിയ ശേഷം ജനുവരിയിലാണ് കാരിക്കിനെ പൊലീസ് സേനയില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്താക്കിയത്.
പൊതുജനങ്ങളെ സംരക്ഷിക്കേണ്ട ചുമതലയുള്ള ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥന്‍ രണ്ട് പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകാലം വ്യക്തിജീവിതത്തില്‍ അതിന് കടകവിരുദ്ധമായ കാര്യങ്ങളാണ് ചെയ്തതെന്ന് ചീഫ് ക്രൗണ്‍ പ്രോസിക്യൂട്ടറും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വംശജയുമായ ജസ്വന്ത് നര്‍വാള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ഇരകളോട് ഇത്രയും ഹീനമായി ഇടപെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള കുറ്റവാളികളെ തന്റെ 34 വര്‍ഷത്തെ സര്‍വീസ് ജീവിതത്തില്‍ ഇതുവരെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലെന്നും നര്‍വാള്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. പലപ്പോഴും ഇരകളെ ഇയാള്‍ വീടിന്റെ സ്റ്റെയര്‍കേസിന് താഴെയുള്ള കപ്ബോര്‍ഡ‍ില്‍ അടച്ചി‌ടാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. 9 സ്ത്രീകളെ വര്‍ഷങ്ങളോളം ഭയപ്പെടുത്തി പീഡിപ്പിച്ചെന്ന് കാരിക് തന്നെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.
Britain’s biggest sex offender, the policeman, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the trial court. Forty-eight-year-old ex-Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick was sentenced by Southwood Crown Court. Justice Cheema Grubb described Carrick as a ‘monster’ in his judgment.
David Carrick’s reign at Hertfordshire spanned 28 years from 2003 to 2020. He raped many women at gunpoint and kept them in prison. Many have experienced demonic sexual assaults. Carrick pleaded guilty to 49 charges, including 24 counts of rape. 12 women were the victims in these cases. Police also proved the remaining charges. All these crimes were committed during his tenure as a police officer. Carrick was fired from the police force in January after pleading guilty in court.
Indian-born Chief Crown Prosecutor Jaswant Narwal said the officer tasked with protecting the public had done things unbecoming in his personal life for two decades. Narwal said that in his 34 years of service, he has never seen criminals who have treated their victims so badly. He often locked his victims in a cupboard under the staircase of the house. Carrick himself admitted to terrorizing and torturing 9 women for years.
