ചെന്നൈ ∙ ടേബിൾ ടെന്നിസിലെ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നിത്യഹരിത നായകൻ അജന്ത ശരത് കമൽ വിരമിക്കുന്നു. 22 വർഷം കരിയറിനൊടുവിൽ ഈ മാസം അവസാനം ടേബിൾ ടെന്നിസിനോട് വിടപറയുമെന്ന് ശരത് കമൽ (42) അറിയിച്ചു. സ്വദേശമായ ചെന്നൈയിൽ 25ന് ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഡബ്ല്യുടിടി സ്റ്റാർ കണ്ടന്റർ ടൂർണമെന്റാണ് വിടവാങ്ങൽ മത്സരം. 

ടേബിൾ ടെന്നിസിലെ രാജ്യാന്തര വേദികളിൽ 2 പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകാലം പതിവുകാരനായിരുന്ന ശരത് കമൽ 5 ഒളിംപിക്സുകളിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു. കോമൺവെൽത്ത് ഗെയിംസുകളിൽ 7 സ്വർണം ഉൾപ്പെടെ 13 മെഡലുകൾ നേടി. ടേബിൾ ടെന്നിസിൽ നാളിതുവരെ ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കു ലഭിച്ച 2 ഏഷ്യൻ ഗെയിംസ് മെഡലുകളിലും ശരത് കമലിന്റെ കയ്യൊപ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
