രഞ്ജി ട്രോഫി ക്രിക്കറ്റിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിലാദ്യമായി ഫൈനലിൽ എത്തിയ കേരളം കൈവരിച്ചത് വിജയ സമാനമായ നേട്ടമാണെന്ന് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പിണറായി വിജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു. ‘‘കരുത്തരായ വിദർഭയെ ആദ്യ ഇന്നിങ്സിൽ മറികടക്കുമെന്ന പ്രതീതിയായിരുന്നു ഒരുഘട്ടത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. പരിചയസമ്പന്നതയും യുവത്വവും കലർന്ന ടീമിന്റെ മികവാർന്ന പ്രകടനത്തിന്റെ ഫലമാണ് കേരളം കൈവരിച്ച ഈ നേട്ടം.’’– മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ഈ സീസണിൽ മികച്ച പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ച്ച വച്ച സച്ചിൻ ബേബി, മുഹമ്മദ് അസ്ഹറുദ്ദീൻ, സൽമാൻ നിസാർ, ജലജ് സക്സേന, ആദിത്യ സർവതെ, എം.ഡി. നിതീഷ് തുടങ്ങിയ താരങ്ങളെ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി അഭിനന്ദിച്ചു.
സക്സേനയെയും സർവതെയെയും മറുനാടൻ താരങ്ങൾ എന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു ശരിയല്ലെന്നും അവർ കേരള സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ‘‘കേരള ക്രിക്കറ്റ് അസോസിയേഷന്റെ സമാനതകളില്ലാത്ത പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ അഭിനന്ദനാർഹമാണ്. കെസിഎയുടെ ഇടപെടലിലൂടെ വലിയ മുന്നേറ്റമാണ് കായിക മേഖലയിൽ കേരളത്തിനുണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നത്. അടിസ്ഥാന സൗകര്യ വികസനം ഉൾപ്പടെ നിരവധി കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യാൻ കെസിഎയ്ക്ക് സാധിച്ചു.’’– മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ചടങ്ങിൽ കേരള ടീം ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ സച്ചിൻ ബേബി റണ്ണർ അപ് ട്രോഫി മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്ക് കൈമാറി.
