‘‘കോൺഗ്രസിന് നാണമില്ലേ? ഇപ്പോൾ അവർ ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് ടീം ക്യാപ്റ്റനെയാണ് ഉന്നമിടുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ 80ലധികം തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പുകളിൽ തോറ്റ, ഇന്ത്യൻ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ പരാജയപ്പെട്ട കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതാവ് രാഹുൽ ഗാന്ധി വന്ന് ക്രിക്കറ്റ് കമന്ററി പറയുമെന്നാണോ അവർ പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്’ – പ്രദീപ് ഭണ്ഡാരി ചോദിച്ചു.

അതേസമയം, വിമർശനം കടുത്തതിനു പിന്നാലെ ഷമ മുഹമ്മദ് സമൂഹമാധ്യമത്തിൽ പങ്കുവച്ച പോസ്റ്റ് പിൻവലിച്ചു. ചാംപ്യൻസ് ട്രോഫിയിൽ ഇന്ത്യയും ന്യൂസീലൻഡും തമ്മിൽ ദുബായിൽ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് ഷമ മുഹമ്മദ് രോഹിത്തിനെ വിമർശിച്ച് എക്സിൽ കുറിപ്പ് പങ്കുവച്ചത്. തടികൂടിയ കായികതാരമാണ് രോഹിത് എന്നു കുറിച്ച ഷമ, അദ്ദേഹം ഭാരം കുറയ്ക്കണമെന്നും ഇന്ത്യ കണ്ട ഏറ്റവും മോശം ക്യാപ്റ്റൻമാരിൽ ഒരാളാണ് എന്നും അതേ കുറിപ്പിൽ എഴുതി. സൗരവ് ഗാംഗുലി, സച്ചിൻ തെൻുഡൽക്കർ, രാഹുൽ ദ്രാവിഡ്, എം.എസ്. ധോണി, വിരാട് കോലി, കപിൽ ദേവ്, രവി ശാസ്ത്രി തുടങ്ങിയവരുമായി താരതമ്യം ചെയ്താൽ രോഹിത്തിന് എവിടെയാണ് സ്ഥാനമെന്നും ഷമ ചോദിച്ചു.

വിവാദം കത്തിപ്പടർന്നതിനു പിന്നാലെ, ഷമ മുഹമ്മദ് പങ്കുവച്ചത് പാർട്ടി നിലപാടല്ല എന്ന് വ്യക്തമാക്കി കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതൃത്വം രംഗത്തെത്തിയിരുന്നു.

‘‘കോൺഗ്രസ് പാർട്ടിയുടെ ദേശീയ വക്താവായ ഷമ മുഹമ്മദ് ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റിലെ ഇതിഹാസത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് നടത്തിയ പരാമർശങ്ങൾ പാർട്ടിയുടെ നിലപാടല്ല. ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട സമൂഹമാധ്യമത്തിലെ പോസ്റ്റ് നീക്കാൻ പാർട്ടി അവരോട് നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇത്തരം കാര്യങ്ങളിൽ ഭാവിയിൽ അതീവ ജാഗ്രത പുലർത്തണമെന്നും ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.’’
