കോഴിക്കോട് നഗരമാകെ കറുത്ത പുക പടർന്നു. തീപിടിത്തത്തിന്റെ കാരണം വ്യക്തമല്ല.

തീപിടിത്തം ഉണ്ടായിട്ട് മൂന്ന് മണിക്കൂറിലേക്ക് അടുക്കുകയാണ്. സാധ്യമായതെല്ലാം ചെയ്യുന്നതായി എസ്‌പി ടി.നാരായണൻ പറഞ്ഞു. രാസവസ്തുക്കൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് തീ അണയ്ക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമവും തുടരുകയാണ്.

കെട്ടിടം പൂർണമായും കത്തിനശിക്കുന്ന നിലയിലാണ്. തുണിത്തരങ്ങളാണ് കത്തുന്നതെന്ന് കാലിക്കറ്റ് ടെക്സ്റ്റൈൽസിലെ ജീവനക്കാർ പറഞ്ഞു. തുണിത്തരങ്ങൾ ഇട്ടുവച്ചത് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് കവറുകളിലാണ്.  

അവധിക്കാലമായതിനാൽ സ്കൂൾ വിദ്യാർ‌ഥികൾക്കു വേണ്ടി ധാരാളം തുണിത്തരങ്ങൾ കരുതിയിരുന്നു.

ഞായറാഴ്ച ആയതിനാൽ പരിസരത്ത് തിരക്ക് കുറവായിരുന്നു. ഇത് അപകടത്തിന്റെ വ്യാപ്തി കുറച്ചു.

ബസ് സ്റ്റാൻഡിലെ ബസുകൾ സുരക്ഷിതസ്ഥാനത്തേക്കു മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. പ്രദേശത്താകെ പുക പടർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്.

ഈ ഭാഗത്തേക്കുള്ള ഗതാഗതത്തിന് പൊലീസ് ന‌ിയന്ത്രണമേർപ്പെടുത്തി. ബസ്‌സ്റ്റാൻഡ് പരിസരത്തെ റോഡ് അടച്ചതോടെ നഗരത്തിലെ മറ്റു ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഗതാഗതക്കുരുക്ക് രൂപപ്പെട്ടു.

സമീപത്തെ മുഴുവൻ കടകളിലുമുള്ളവരെ പൊലീസ് ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചു. പ്രദേശത്തെ എല്ലാ കടകളിലും വൈദ്യുതി ബന്ധം വിച്ഛേദിക്കണമെന്ന് മേയർ ബീനാ ഫിലിപ്പ് അറിയിച്ചു.
