കൊച്ചി ∙ സഹസ്ര കോടികളുടെ നിക്ഷേപ സാധ്യതയുള്ള പുറങ്കടൽ തുറമുഖ പദ്ധതി (ഔട്ടർ ഹാർബർ) കൊച്ചിയെ ഭാവിയുടെ വാണിജ്യ, വ്യവസായ നഗരമായി വളരാൻ സഹായിക്കുമെന്നു കൊച്ചി പോർട്ട് അതോറിറ്റി ചെയർപഴ്സൻ ഡോ.എം.ബീന. ‘‘പദ്ധതി കേന്ദ്ര ഷിപ്പിങ് മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്റെ പരിഗണനയിലാണ്.
ഔട്ടർ ഹാർബറിൽ റിഫൈനറി, ഹൈഡ്രജൻ പ്ലാന്റുകൾ, അനുബന്ധ വ്യവസായശാലകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവയ്ക്കെല്ലാം സാധ്യതയുണ്ട്’’. – തുറമുഖ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളുടെ ചുക്കാൻ കയ്യാളിയ 5 വർഷത്തിനു ശേഷം ഡൽഹിയിൽ ഹാൻഡ്‌ലൂംസ് ഡവലപ്മെന്റ് കമ്മിഷണറായി ചുമതലയേൽക്കാൻ ഒരുങ്ങുകയാണ് ഡോ.ബീന.
വിഴിഞ്ഞം തുറമുഖവും കൊച്ചി തുറമുഖവും ഒരു പോലെ വളരുമെന്നും അവർ പറഞ്ഞു. 2017 – 18 ൽ 2.91 കോടി ടൺ ചരക്കാണു കൊച്ചി കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നത്.
2022 – 23 ൽ അതു 3.52 കോടി ടണ്ണിലെത്തി; 21 ശതമാനം വർധന. കപ്പൽ ചരക്കിറങ്ങി മടങ്ങാനെടുക്കുന്ന സമയം (ടേൺ എറൗണ്ട് ടൈം) ഗണ്യമായി കുറയ്ക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചു.
അതിനുള്ള സാഗർ ശ്രേഷ്ഠ പുരസ്കാരവും ലഭിച്ചു. പുതിയ ക്രൂസ് ടെർമിനൽ ‘സാഗരിക’ കമ്മിഷൻ ചെയ്യാനായി.
പ്രവർത്തന വരുമാനം 2017 –18 ലെ 159.58 കോടി രൂപയിൽ നിന്ന് 2022 –23 ൽ 338.13 കോടി രൂപയായി ഉയർന്നു. എക്കാലത്തെയും ഉയർന്ന വരുമാനവും (763.56 കോടി രൂപ) നേടാനായെന്നു ഡോ.ബീന ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.
